Health Fairs

Wellness Coalition America (WCA) collaborates with companies throughout the area to host interactive health fairs for their employees.  These events emphasize the importance of health education and disease prevention and assess employees’ health risks.  They also allow us to analyze a company’s needs for continuing wellness education and interventions and to recommend a comprehensive corporate wellness program to improve employees’ health and control the employer’s healthcare costs.

WCA nurses and medical directors are on hand at each health fair to provide counseling as needed and to conduct voluntary health screenings that include:

Cholestech Screening (LDX finger-stick method), which provides immediate test results for:

  • Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and TC/HDL ratio
  • Triglycerides
  • Blood glucose

Health Risk Assessment (HRA): Cholestech screening results are loaded into Healthgram, which creates a Personal Health Record for each employee, and generates a one-page summary that identifies any health risks. The HRA also keeps track of:  blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, lifestyle risk factors, and family history.

Fitness Profile (can be customized based on a company’s need to assess risks for certain work-related injuries):

  • Body mass index measurement (height to weight ratio)
  • Girth measurement of chest, waist, hips, arms and thighs (to evaluate waist to hip ratio)
  • Body composition analysis
  • Cardiovascular endurance (heart rate response to exercise)
  • Strength test (sit-ups and push-ups)
  • Flexibility and balance tests

Health Knowledge Assessment:  Objectively evaluates an employee’s understanding of preventive health, nutrition, fitness, and healthcare consumption.  It helps us determine areas where wellness education is needed.

Lifestyle Questionnaire:  Analyzes each worker’s knowledge, attitude and behavior regarding factors that impact his or her overall wellbeing.  Its primary goal is to increase self-awareness and encourage employees to take responsibility for improving and maintaining their health.

Employee Interest Survey:  Identifies employees’ needs and interests.  This one-page questionnaire is used in designing and tailoring a corporate wellness program for each company’s workforce.

Employees can access brochures and other printed materials containing a wealth of information on a wide range of health topics, including asthma, diabetes, tobacco addiction, counseling, proper nutrition, exercise and dental hygiene.  They also have a chance to collect fun giveaways and win prizes like sessions with a personal trainer.  Employers often ask us to coordinate additional programs and services through one of our many WCA sponsors, such as Pilates demonstrations, chair massages and wellness seminars.

Following the event, we provide the employer with a HIPAA-compliant Health Risk Assessment Report.  It summarizes results of the individual HRAs and screenings—including demographics; high and moderate-risk test results; chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes, asthma and allergies; family history and lifestyle factors—without identifying specific individuals.  We also deliver a summary DM Identification Report, indicating the number of high risk employees, including co-morbidities, data sources and primary conditions.

These health fairs leave employees with a heightened awareness of issues that influence their health and a sense of gratitude that their employer is investing in their future and wellbeing.  If you are interested in organizing a health fair for your employees, please contact Andrew Grose at andrewg@primarypc.com or 704-585-7352, Ext. 3058.
